Who are we?

Welcome to Zion's Women of Wisdom blog!

Our name comes from Proverbs 3:13-15
"Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, for the gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold. She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her."

Women of Wisdom exists to encourage, equip, and develop every woman in our community to realize her potential as a woman and leader in the name of Jesus Christ.

Our purpose is to build relationships among us for growth in our Christian womanhood, including new comers, established, and inter-generational.

A Mother's Version of 1 Corinthians 13 - Author Unknown

If I live in a house of spotless beauty with everything in its place, but have not love, I am a housekeeper not a homemaker.
If I have time for waxing, polishing and decorative achievements, but have not love, my children learn cleanliness not godliness.
If I scream at my children for every infraction and fault them for every mess they make, but have not love, my children become people-pleasers not obedient children.
Love leaves the dust in search of a child’s laugh.
Love smiles at the tiny fingerprints on a newly cleaned window.
Love wipes away the tears before it wipes up the spilled milk.
Love picks up the child before it picks up the toys.
Love accepts the fact that I am the ever-present “mommy,”the taxi-driver to every childhood event, the counsellor when my children fail or are hurt.
Love crawls with the baby, walks with the toddler, and runs with the child, then stands aside to let the youth walk into adulthood.
Before I became a mother I took glory in my house of perfection.
Now I glory in God’s perfection of my child.
All the projections I had for my house and my children have faded away into insignificance and what remain are the memories of my kids.

Now there abides in my home scratches on most of the furniture, dishes with missing place settings and bedroom walls full of stickers, posters and markings
But the greatest of all is the Love that permeates my relationships with my children.

The Chosen Mother by Erma Bombeck

    • Most women become a mother by accident, some by choice, and a few by habit.
Did you ever wonder how mothers of children with life threatening illnesses are chosen?
Somehow, I visualize God hovering over earth selecting His instruments for pr
o...pagation with great care and deliberation. As He observes, He instructs His angels to make notes in giant ledger..... “Armstrong, Beth, son, patron saint Matthew"; "Forrest, Marjorie, daughter, patron saint Cecilia"; "Rutledge, Carrie, twins, patron saint Gerard."
Finally, He passes a name to an angel and says, "Give her a child with cancer."
The angel is curious. "Why this one, God? She is so happy." "Exactly," smiles God," Could I give a child with cancer a mother who does not know laughter? That would be cruel."
"But, does she have patience?" asks the angel. "I don’t want her to have too much patience or she will drown in a sea of self-pity and despair. Once the shock and resentment wears off, she will handle it." "I watched her today, "said God. “She has that feeling of self independence that is so rare and necessary in a mother. You see, the child I am going to give her has its own world. She has to make it live in her world and that’s not going to be easy."
"But Lord, I don't think she believes in you," said the angel. "No matter, I can fix that. This one is perfect, she has just enough selfishness." The angel gasps, “Selfishness? Is that a virtue?" God nods. "If she can't separate herself from the child occasionally, she'll never survive. Yes, here is the woman I will bless with a child less than perfect.”
“She doesn't realize it yet, but she is to be envied. She will never take anything her child does for granted. She will never consider a single step ordinary. I will permit her to see clearly the things I see.... ignorance, cruelty, prejudice...and allow her to rise above them."
"And what about her patron saint?" asks the angel, his pen poised in mid air.
God smiles and says.... "A mirror will suffice."

Changes for the 2010-2011 Year

Hey gals!

We had an amazing Steering Team meeting on Saturday, August 7, and amazing plans were made for the 2010-2011 year. Here are some of the upcoming changes you need to be aware of ...
  • Our new name "MOPS & Beyond" is for ALL moms from pregnancy through sending their children off to the college or the work force. You do not need to be a member of Zion Community Church to come.
  • Our first meeting with start with the night group on Thursday, September 16 at 7 PM. The first AM meeting with be Thursday, October 7.
  • The morning meeting will be from 9:15 AM to 11:15 AM.
  • The night meeting will be from 7 to 8:30 PM.
  • MOPS International Memberships will be available for purchase. Click here to read about the benefits. You can register online or at the meetings.
  • For the entire year, we are asking for moms to pay a $10 membership fee. Half of the membership fee will go directly to A Women's Concern Parenting Group (a group of ladies who have chosen life, given birth, and are involved in a support group). The other half will go towards helping moms within our group who could use financial support in time of need. Our chartering church, Zion Community Church, has blessed us with a wonderful budget to totally support every meeting. We are excited to reach out to the community in this way.
  • Visitors are always welcome to a meeting for free and the joining fee will be discussed in the 2nd or 3rd meeting.
  • A jar will be placed on each table each meeting for loose change. We will be collecting this also for AWC Parenting Group. Details of what we are doing will be announced from time to time in meetings.
  • A pre-registration packet will be mailed out late August full of information about our meeting, asking for an updates to your contact information, and cards to invite moms to our group!
  • We are introducing Care Circle this year. This is a small group each lady will be involved in at each MOPS group. When you arrive, please sit where you like. Then during the meeting, we will break off into Care Circles to discuss the topic of the meeting. Each Care Circle will also be assigned breakfast and clean up. More will be talked about at the first meetings.
  • We will have a Prayer Request Box. Our mentor mom, Judy Rice, is a prayer warrior and would like to pray for you and your loved ones. Look forward to this new feature!
  • Check back to this website daily for updates.
So this is just the beginning to an exciting year!
In Christ,
