- The cost of writing a will is around $150 to $200 per will. To revise it, it runs about $50 (this is Rose's rates).
- You should revise your will when a major family happens: birth/adoption, death, divorce
- You might think you don't have assets/money to pass on to your children, but the cause of your death can be a big payout (killed by drunk driver on the job, etc).
- Find two people to list as guardian for your children (list as first and second)
- You may list your sister only (and not her husband) as if she passes, the Will will not give your children to her husband, but to the 2nd person you list in the Will
- Along with a guardian, list a executor in you Will - a person who will take care of your estate (financial).
- Wills & Trust don't expire.
- You only have one original but you can make copies for family/friend
Handouts with a lot more information will be available at future MOPS meetings.
I highly suggest see Rose Kauffman for this! A Will is nothing to attempt on your own - go professional!
