It is with much excitement to announce two special events happening at the Bellefonte Art Museum for Centre County!
The museum was awarded a grand sum from a grant to refurbish the second floor of our 200 year old grey stone which houses the museum. The renovation, which started today!!, will enable us to use the second floor for children's creative workshops and discovery stations. Also on the second floor will be an Artist Community Gallery where artists will be hosted as "artists in residence" for month long occupancy to show, sell and create their work within the space - all for the public to view. There will be an gift shop along with a Lecture and Rotating special interest room. This is all on the second floor!! The downstairs already has a beautiful large two room gallery and a special tea room for tea socials along with the museums own art.
The museum is closed for renovations until April.
So when it reopens the show entitled "The Artful Dog" will be displayed. A magnificent private collection of paintings, sculptures, photographs and antiques - a true survey of the dog in art, will be in the first floor galleries. Plus you can submit a photo of a special dog you might know or knew (don't we all!) along with $5.00 which will be split with our favorite local organization - PAWS! All the pooch photos will be displayed in the tea room of the museum during The Artful Dog exhibition for public viewing. Please note the photo will not be returned, plans for using them in a children's art program is planned.
The museum is free and open to the public.
I do hope you take this opportunity to mark your calendars for the opening of the show. If you check out our website you will see all the other upcoming shows for the year 2011 and beginning 2012. http://www.bellefontemuseum.
Cheers to all!
